More About Andrew
Andrew, a California native from Santa Barbara, earned his history degree from UCLA
in 2003 before relocating to Sapporo, Japan, with his wife. During his 17-year tenure
in Japan, he developed a deep understanding of second-language learners' challenges
while teaching English to students of all ages and proficiency levels. After completing
his Masters in TESOL from The New School in 2017, he transitioned to teaching at university
and community college levels. His teaching philosophy centers on equipping students
with practical tools for success both academically and beyond the classroom. At SBCC's
ESL department, he cherishes creating spaces for cultural exchange and learning opportunities
between students. When not teaching, Andrew enjoys spending time with his wife, two
children, and their yellow lab, Maybel, particularly through cooking, family game
nights, and leisure drives.
